Hi, I’m Shahida Robertson-Davis—a certified chef, culinary wellness educator, and the founder of Roots & Roux.
This space started as a way for me to explore my relationship with food and health in real time. Years ago, I launched this site during a plant-based phase of my life, using it as a creative outlet to show how familiar, comforting dishes could be reimagined with intention. At the time, it was about curiosity, creativity, and learning how to cook in a way that felt better for my body.
Over time, my needs changed—and so did my perspective. I realized that rigid rules around food weren’t sustainable, and they definitely weren’t supportive of long-term health, energy, or hormone balance. Like many women, I found myself navigating shifting hormones, changing energy levels, and the very real question of how to eat in a way that actually supports my body instead of fighting it.
That evolution is what led to Roots & Roux as it exists today.
Why I Created Roots & Roux
Roots & Roux helps women support hormonal balance and whole-body wellness through science-backed culinary education, holistic nutrition, and community. We offer cycle-informed recipes, practical guidance, and immersive experiences—so you can eat in a way that supports your energy, mood, metabolism, and long-term health.
I created Roots & Roux because I saw a gap between wellness advice and real life. There’s a lot of information out there, but not nearly enough guidance on how to turn it into food you actually want to cook, eat, and sustain. My goal is to bridge that gap—using flavor, technique, and education to make supportive eating feel doable, enjoyable, and grounded in reality.
What You’ll Find Here
