Soft Power: The Floral Spirit-Free Cocktail
The RRR Spirit-Free Cocktail
Soft Power was created as the closing note to a trio (Sage & Stone, Afterglow) — a drink designed to help the body rest, receive, and restore. If Afterglow is about release, Soft Power is about what comes after: allowing the nervous system to soften, allowing the body to take in support, and allowing yourself to settle back into balance.
This is a floral, spirit-free cocktail built with intention — not to sedate, not to overstimulate, and not to overwhelm the senses. Instead, it’s designed to support the nervous system, encourage emotional ease, and create a subtle sense of safety in the body, which is deeply connected to hormone balance.
Rather than chasing sweetness or intensity, Soft Power is about restraint, clarity, and gentleness with structure — a reminder that softness and strength can exist in the same glass.
Choosing the Florals: Blue Lotus or Butterfly Pea
I went back and forth between blue lotus flower and butterfly pea flower when developing this drink. Both work beautifully, but they create very different experiences in the glass.
Blue lotus flower is traditionally used to support relaxation and emotional ease. From a hormone-health perspective, that matters because nervous system regulation plays a major role in cortisol balance, which in turn affects progesterone and overall endocrine health. Flavor-wise, blue lotus is subtle and soft, adding more of a feeling than a strong taste. This is the version of Soft Power you reach for when you want something grounding and inward.
Butterfly pea flower is more about visual impact than flavor. Even a small piece creates a beautiful lavender hue, and it’s rich in anthocyanins, antioxidants that support cellular health and help reduce oxidative stress—an important factor in hormone balance. This option is perfect when you want the drink to feel lighter, brighter, and more playful.
Lavender ties both versions together. It’s well known for its calming effect on the nervous system, which supports healthy cortisol rhythms, but it’s also potent. A little truly goes a long way—just enough to add aroma without turning the drink bitter or perfumey.
The Role of Organic White Tea
Soft Power uses organic white tea as a gentle base to give the drink structure without heaviness. White tea is rich in polyphenols, which support cellular health and help reduce oxidative stress—an important factor in overall hormone balance.
From a flavor standpoint, white tea is clean, delicate, and slightly floral on its own, which allows the lotus, butterfly pea, and lavender to remain the focus rather than competing with them. It provides just enough body to keep the drink from feeling flat, while still keeping the overall experience light and calming.
Because white tea is minimally processed, it also tends to be easier on the nervous system than stronger teas, making it a beautiful choice for a restorative, evening-leaning ritual drink like Soft Power.
Cycle Phase Alignment: The Menstrual Phase
Soft Power is especially supportive during the menstrual phase, when estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest and the body is focused on rest and repair. This is a phase that benefits from calming, low-stimulation nourishment and gentle nervous system support. Whether you choose blue lotus for deeper relaxation or butterfly pea for a lighter, uplifting feel, the intention remains the same: helping the body rest, receive, and restore.
